$LOVEFLY

the fly has a love spot

Scientists mapped the entire brain of a male fruit fly and found the part helping him find love.

Google and Janelia just mapped the complete male fruit fly brain, and buried inside it is something literally called the “love spot.”

The new brain map includes visual-motor pathways that connect visual neurons to motor neurons. In between is the male-specific neuron LoVP92, named for the so-called “love spot,” that plays a role in courtship behavior.

The fly has a love spot.
